This program advances women's empowerment in rural Ghana, in partnership with the Rev. Dr. Karla J. Cooper Foundation. Its scholarships, farming training, and literacy programs give women the skills to build a livelihood — but skills need means to take root. Regular income from Social Income lets women put their training into practice, turning new knowledge into lasting financial independence.
Ghana sits on the West African coast, home to around 33 million people speaking Twi as the most common language alongside English. Founded as the Gold Coast under British rule, it gained independence in 1957 as the first sub-Saharan African country to do so, then navigated a series of coups before returning to stable democratic governance in the 1990s. Today roughly a third of Ghanaians still live in poverty, despite the country's oil wealth and one of the continent's more stable economies.
